Live Oak Tree

Two weeks ago I made another trip up to Mystic Seaport with the Dalvero Academy. I swear every time I go up there something else happens and I find out something new. It really is a well feeder! Despite a little chill in the air and two hours of sleep the night before my hands were uncontrollably itching (which means they are basically dying to draw!) I'm pretty obsessed with drawing! But that's ok I really wouldn't have it any other way.

The last few times I went to Mystic, CT  I have passed by this live oak tree. I have taken shots of it and I have done a few thumbnails but always kept a note of it in the back of my head. "I'll go back to it later." I really had no intention of drawing it this time but when I passed by it I said now is the time I gotta draw this thing! I think what really caught my eye this time was all the textures of this live oak tree and its history. Live Oak is the state tree of Georgia and a southern symbol of strength.  This particular tree is over 400 years old and slaves use to congregate around it to sing and stay warm. I thought that was interesting.  Everything really does have a story.  -Danielle

A weekend with Cherry Blossoms

Last Friday I made a day trip down to Washington, DC with my sister to draw the cherry blossoms. I will not lie but I must admit these things were a challenge to draw!! As usual my determination set in. I knew I only had a certain number of hours so there was no time to second guess what I was drawing. I had to put it down and just live with it! DC had great weather. It was about 80 degrees and since it is April I really didn't think to bring sunscreen! (haha big mistake) My sister and I left on a 7am train from NYC got to DC at 9:45am and we grabbed something quick to eat and went on our separate ways! It was great! My fingers have been itching for a while for something different to draw and this was the perfect opportunity. While I was there I couldn't resist to make a few drawings of the US Capitol Building. That beautiful dome shape always catches my eye! I left DC that night on a 730pm train sunburned and exhausted but extremely happy!
I also got a chance to draw the Cherry Blossoms at the Bronx Botanical Gardens on Saturday! It was a weekend spent with pink!

Remember to check out my Earth Day Prints to get your limited edition print. These prints will be on sale throughout the month of April.
